Heat damaged metal

Introduction:

A guide to creating a heat damaged effect on appropriate weapons or exhausts.

In this guide some of the paints used are the older style Games Workshop paints as I started the force before the new ones were released so I've also given the current equivalents afterwards.

The paints, materials and brushes I used are listed below the guide (in order of appearance in fine movie style) but it's only a guide and if you prefer using a different set of paints or other sizes of brushes or feel you can skip some stages then don't feel constrained by my choices.

Step 01

Step 01

Base coat the area with whichever metal effect you desire, in this case it's Shining gold/Gehennas gold with a Nuln oil ink wash

Step 02

Step 02

Apply a watered down coat of Necron abyss/Kantor blue over the front third using a detail brush

Step 03

Step 03

Whilst the first coat is still wet blend in a watered down coat of Liche purple/Xereus purple over the middle third using a detail brush

Step 04

Step 04

Next blend in Balthasar gold into the still wet purple towards the back of the barrel using a detail brush

Step 05

Step 05

Carefully drybrush the tip of the barrel with Ironbreaker using a small drybrush

Step 06

Step 06

Paint Forgeworlds Black soot Weathering powder mixed with a little water onto the end of the barrel using a detail brush then once dry blend in using an old brush
