Lighting techniques/ OSL
Introduction:
A guide to creating lighting effects or Object source lighting/O.S.L
In this guide some of the paints used are the older style Games Workshop paints as I started the force before the new ones were released so I've also given the current equivalents afterwards.
I've used light blues for this guide but to create the same effect in a different colour all you need to do is swap the the first two paints for one dark and one light in the shade you wish.
The paints, materials and brushes I used are listed below the guide (in order of appearance in fine movie style) but it's only a guide and if you prefer using a different set of paints or other sizes of brushes or feel you can skip some stages then don't feel constrained by my choices.
Two tips to take into account here:
1: make sure you remove enough paint from the drybrush before hand, it's better to remove too much and have to apply more than it is to have too much paint on the brush and spoil the effect
2: for the final white highlights always use a different drybrush as the one used for the previous colours will almost always be tainted with that colour (particularly reds which need their own seperate brush in my experience) and won't achive the bright highlight needed
